This past Friday I recorded an interview for the Lifeline Radio Program on Faith Radio in Tallahassee. Lifeline is a 30 minute program aired each Saturday at noon on 90.1 FM & 105.7 FM in Tallahassee. Hosted by Barb Shackelford, Executive Director of A Women’s Pregnancy Center, the Lifeline program serves as a way for the pregnancy center to build community awareness of their mission to serve girls in crisis pregnancies and to discuss related issues.
During the interview we discussed:
- Statistics about college students professing Christian faith
- Ministry collaboration efforts
- My experience as a college student and journey of faith
- My relationship with Katie and our courtship process
Though I have been aware of A Women’s Pregnancy Center for several years, I had been largely distracted from much participation – bogged down in other ministry concerns. Earlier this year I attended a Prayer Summit that the Center was inviting local pastors and ministers to participate in. At the Prayer Summit my heart was burdened afresh for young women in crisis pregnancies – many of them college students or college age. I realized that I couldn’t allow my own sense of being “too busy” or of having “too few laborers” to neglect support of this avenue of vital service. Since that time I have tried to more actively reach out to support the work of A.W.P.C. and to discover how our campus ministry efforts can reinforce their ministry efforts.
Dozens of phone calls and emails followed as we strategized, and as I contacted referrals. Through the course of that time we have been forming a great bond of ministry collaboration. Our campus ministry cannot provide all of the excellent services that A.W.P.C. provides, and they cannot provide the on-going Christian community that campus ministries and churches provide.
I have so much respect for the work that she and her team do at the Center. They do amazing work with amazing hearts! Each year they serve hundreds of young girls in the midst of crisis pregmancy situations. They offer crisis pregnancy counseling, have a sonogram room, offer counseling for those who have gone through the trauma of abortion procedures and show people the love of Jesus.
I proudly support A Women’s Pregnancy Center and their ministry efforts. As ministries, may we continue to work together to serve people and turn hearts to God.
