I am challenging college students who claim to love serve Jesus Christ to live counter culturally during the college spring break.
For many, spring break is a time to cut loose from studies, hit the beaches and the clubs and to live with reckless abandon from morality conscience. Students who under other circumstances are studious and intelligent “loose their mind” during college spring break.
Other’s rebel in less pre-meditated ways. They go back home, and stay with their family during the break. The problem is, they just don’t have the resolve to read their Bible and pray regularly when there aren’t other Christian peers around to pray with them. They fall into old patterns of relating to high school girlfriends and boyfriends, like sheep going to a slaughter. Sad isn’t it?
Let’s face it. Sin is deceptive. Even those who have truly experienced the power and miracle of spiritual regeneration through Jesus, can be deceived by the deceitfulness of sin, and can make terribly unwise decisions. I’ve seen the shame that results from such decisions. I’ve seen the pain. I’ve seen the devastation. It’s sad.
Be on guard, students. The enemy is a thief. He is a liar.
I challenge you Christian to live intentionally this spring break. Make your break count. Yes, resist temptation. Stand firm. But, beyond that, come back to your campus ministry and Christian friends at college stronger than when you left.
Imagine what the campus would be like if 100 Christ following students boldly came back to campus more full of God’s Word, more in love with Jesus and without all the extra baggage that comes along with sin.
It’s time to spring forward – Don’t fall back! Press in to Jesus like never before! Allow the testing of your faith to develop perseverance.
